The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) manages the exploration and development of the nation’s offshore resources. It seeks to appropriately balance economic development, energy independence, and environmental protection through oil and gas leases, renewable energy development and environmental reviews and studies.
The position is located in the Marine Minerals Program (MMP) Branch under the Leasing Division within the Strategic Resources Office (SRO). The SRO manages the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas and hard minerals leasing program and regulates the safe and environmentally sound exploration and production of these resources. Major functions of the MMP include the planning and Inter- and Intra-agency coordination of activities associated with the program; projection and planning of future resource commitments needed to meet program goals and objectives; recommending new legislation, regulation and procedures; and identification of significant gaps in scientific data and information that could impede discovery or leasing of strategic minerals.
This position serves as Chief of the Marine Minerals Program Branch. The incumbent's primary duties and responsibilities include management of the OCS marine mineral (sand and gravel) leasing program related to beach nourishment and coastal restoration projects. This includes coordination of lease requests for other hard minerals on the OCS and development of policy regarding present and future exploration and jurisdiction of marine mineral resources in the OCS and the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
This is a permanent, full-time position and located in Herndon, VA
GS-15 is the full performance level.
BOEM has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
